What is the Best Bug Out Vehicle?
This is a question that has caused much debate among the survival and prepping communities. It is something that you are going to want to consider if you plan on making any real commitment to properly preparing yourself and your family in the event of an emergency.
This one decision might save your life someday. So it’s a good thing that I’m here to provide this insight into the proper choice of which vehicle is the best to bug out with.
As I said before, there are a few schools of thought when it comes to this, but my own belief is that the vehicle you choose depends solely on you. What are you going to need it for? Are you fleeing an invading army? Perhaps there is a virus outbreak that is killing thousands. No one can tell you what the next catastrophe is going to be, they can only say that if it is escapable, there are going to be millions trying to escape.
That thought pattern brings me to my personal choice for bug out vehicle, the motorcycle. I am not saying that any motorcycle is going to be able to do the job that you want it to. What I am saying is that you are going to want to pick a motorcycle with at least some off road capabilities. A big Harley or a chopper is going to be a terrible choice.
You need knobby tires on your machine because you never know when you are going to have to head off into the bush and hide. I would recommend long travel suspension as well. The more off road capable the better. Adventure bikes are the best though.
The motorcycle is my choice because of the situation that I am in. I have no one in my life that is going to require my assistance during times of crisis, so being able to get myself out of a jam will be easiest on a bike.
Have you thought about the crisis of running out of fuel? I don’t mean the running out of fuel problem that can be fixed by a quick walk to the gas station. The running out of fuel scenario that I am talking about is the kind where all of North America runs out of fuel. This is not something that you are going to be warned about so make sure that what you have in the tank is going to last you as long as possible. Again, another point for motorcycles as the best bug out vehicle.
So now that you know about my choice, lets talk about your choice, shall we? You probably haven’t even made the choice yet. Have you? That’s okay, it isn’t as much of a problem as you might think. You are safe because you most likely have already bought your bug out vehicle with out even thinking of it in that manner. What I’m trying to say is that your bug out vehicle can be absolutely anything that you have.
If you have a car, you can use that car. If you have an armoured personnel carrier, well, that is probably the best option to get the job done. A bicycle, skateboard, or even roller blades can be use to evacuate an area faster than walking could.
Look out into your drive way and see what is there. That is going to be your best option as bug out vehicle. You don’t need to go out and get something better. You are going to need to learn to survive with what you have, so you might as well start learning now.
So now that you are done thinking about how you can load your entire survival plan onto your smart car, lets talk about the absolute best option possible. That would be a military vehicle. It definitely is not the most realistic option, but it is by far the best. You are going to be safe and secure while surrounded by armour plating and bullet proof tires.
An armoured military vehicle is the must have vehicle for any prepper who is also a member of the more money than brains club.
A military vehicle could also be your best bug out option during times of civil unrest. There are revolutions around the world where the impoverished masses are rising up to demand what is rightfully theirs. I don’t really know what that is, but some of those protesters are pretty violent.
If you are going to want to escape an angry mob, I’m sorry to say this, but a military vehicle is your best way to drive through or over it.
As terrible as that is to think about, it’s still a likely scenario. Yes I am a pessimist, but I’m also prepared for almost any emergency.
Another vehicle that you might want to consider in the event of an emergency is the bicycle. It has been getting people around all over the world and if for some reason your local area runs out of fuel for vehicles, everyone is going to get a little bit desperate. Currently, everything runs on petroleum. Food gets to us because of it, most modern medicine uses plastics and other petroleum products, we would be screwed. But at least you would be able to get around easily enough on a bicycle.
I want to recommend prepping a bicycle as a bug out vehicle right now, before the s**t hits the fan. Do it now because after a tragedy, you might not be able to find any bike parts at your local retailers. You are going to need tire repair kits, tire pumps, tubes, and other equipment that will keep your bike on the road longer than other peoples. A good knowledge of how bikes work and how to repair them is going to be essential as well.
The best type of bicycle that you can choose is the mountain bike. It’s strong enough to support yourself and whatever cargo you need to bring with you. The tires are going to be able to take you over any terrain and the suspension is going to eat up most of the bumps that you encounter. I would suggest getting front only suspension because rear suspension is going to take away from the effectiveness of every pedal stroke. Remember that real, hardcore survival is a calories game and the less you spend on pedaling a bug out bicycle, the better off you will be.
There is another vehicle that some of you are probably screaming about. I’m sure that some of you are reading this article and thinking that this guy is lame and doesn’t have a clue what he is talking about. Well guess what? I’m saving the best option for last.
The best bug out vehicle that is available to the general public is the small to medium sized 4×4 pick up truck. Crew cab is preferable, but beggars can’t be choosers.
This kind of truck is used around the world. In third world countries where extreme survival is a way of life, you will find these trucks. Whenever you see a report about an under funded group of rebels on CNN, you will see a bunch of ethnic dudes with ak-47’s and rockets launchers in the back of a small pick up truck.
This kind of truck is tried, tested, and already been proven around the world in every situation, why not use one in your daily life and prepping plans?
The small pickup truck is also the best option because of its massive versatility. You can transport loads of people or lots of things to almost anywhere that you want to go. The 4×4 option makes it great off road and generally these trucks are made by companies that make reliable vehicles. You would not want some piece of crap breaking down on you when you need it most.
So there you have it, the best bug out vehicle that you will ever need or want is the small pick up truck. I’m not really sorry if you disagree with this statement, but remember that the vehicle must suit the situation.
No matter what you are doing, or whatever situation that you are in, the best anything, whether it is car, weapon or ally, is going to be the one that you have, not the one that you want.
