A good knowledge of wild edible plants is going to help your chances of survival much more than you would ever believe.

For example, did you know that dandelions are edible? That’s right, you can even purchase them in certain grocery stores.

I need you to read this disclaimer before you read the rest of the article though.

If you don’t know what you are doing, you are probably going to poison yourself. Eating wild plants is extremely dangerous and could make a survival situation worse.

This warning is even more important when you are learning about wild mushrooms that are edible. There are many that are great sources of food but there are many edible species of mushrooms that look exactly like their poisonous counterparts.

However, once you are well informed about what is good to eat, you are going to realize that the various locations that you only just wandered through are great sources of nourishment.

One more thing that I want to mention about wild edible plants is that you might want to get yourself a reference guide before you head out into nature and try to eat it all. What I did while learning about wild edibles was add a book about the topic to my backpack before I started learning. I was kind of worried about poisoning myself and my reference book saved me from eating bad mushrooms a few times.

Here is a list of a few books that you can purchase. If these don’t suit your needs, be sure to select a book that is more specific to your local area.

I will be putting as much information as I know and can find on this page later so be sure to stay tuned for more great knowledge about wild plants and other edibles that you can find on your journeys or in a survival situation.
