Water From Plants

Holding a glass of water in front of a plant.

As I’m sure that you all know, plants need water to survive too. Just ask the endless stream of dead flora that was removed from my last apartment.

If you know how to easily extract this valuable resource, then you are going to dramatically improve your chances of survival in almost any situation.

The simplest and easiest way of getting water out of plants is to cut them. Generally the liquid that you seek will just pour out and you can either collect it or drink it up right from the source.

I do have to give you a WARNING though. DO NOT drink the liquid from plants that are poisonous or plants that you do not recognize. If you do so, you will probably die. That would suck because death by poisoning is one of the worst ways to go.

Also, if you see a sticky milky white sap coming out of the plant that you just cut, DO NOT consume it! It is poisonous.

Tapping trees for sap is a great way to find an easy source of drinkable liquid. You are going to want to fashion a spout and bucket to collect the sap after you drilled the hole. Then you are going to have one of the best drinks of your life.

Various cacti and certain vines are often full of drinkable water and if you are in an environment that has these two drinkable resources, you are never going to dehydrate. I strongly suggest that you learn about the various plants in any area that you are planning on visiting. That is the kind of info that is going to save your life one day.

There are also a number of ways to get drinkable liquids out of plants other than cutting them.

crushing plants is a great way to find water.

One way to go about it is to crush the plant into pulp. Once the plant is crushed as much as you can possible get it, you can then strain any liquid out of it using some kind of cloth or other available strainer system.

Once again I feel the need to insert a WARNING into this little article. DO NOT crush and consume plants that you are unfamiliar with. I do not want any lawsuits because I didn’t add that simple disclaimer in here. Although I do believe in and encourage natural selection. So be sure to do what ever you think is best and completely ignore that good advice that is being given to you right now.

There is a way of testing plants in the field to see if they are poisonous or not. That is a whole other article though and it is going to be filled with so many disclaimers that you wont have the time to find the useful information in it.

If you happen to have plastic bags and string, you can easily get drinking water out of certain plants. All you need to do is put a bunch of the plants leaves inside the plastic bag and tie it closed. Make sure you get as many of the leaves in as you possibly can. You are also going to want to tie the bag closed so it is as air tight as possible.

You can then come back in a few hours and there will be drinkable water inside that bag of leaves. This is because the plants leaves give off a bit of moisture every time they “breathe”. This collects in your plastic bag and voila, you have yourself a drink that will save your life.

REMEMBER: You can’t go for more that three days without water. So be sure to learn tips like this to ensure your survival and the survival of those around you.
