“You don’t have to be fast while running away from a bear, you just have to be faster than the person next to you.”

One aspect of prepping that many people don’t consider, is their personal health and fitness. There are a lot of people out there that are so overweight that they have resigned themselves to devices such as motorized scooters and wheel chairs for their personal transport. These unfortunate souls are going to be the first to be eaten during an emergency situation.

For the rest of us, our health is important to us, but if it came down to it, would you be able to climb a huge tree to scavenge some bird eggs or run and hide from an advancing army?

If your answer was honest and you said no, you are going to want to start considering a light exercise routine to keep yourself ahead of the curve and provide some extra support for yourself during an emergency situation that is more physically demanding than you are used to.

Exercise does not have to be a daunting proposition, just do what you can and stop. Do the same tomorrow, the next day and the day after that and you will eventually start so see some progress. When I was younger, I spent many hours dangling from the tree in front of my house trying to do just one pull up. It didn’t happen for at least two weeks, but I kept at it and eventually I was able to do one, just in time for the school physical fitness evaluation. One pull up wasn’t enough to pass, but only two other kids did better, so I felt like a champ.
