Survival Skills

Its not just about waiting for a rescue when you are in a desperate situation. The goal is to remain completely healthy and happy for the entire experience. Some times, this is just not possible, but with the right skill set, you will be able to survive when the going gets tough.

Survival skills are not just things like the ability to rub two sticks together to make fire, but more complex ideas, such as how to withstand the days, weeks or even years of lonesomeness that come with being stranded somewhere that no one can find you.

The most basic skill that should be in your arsenal of knowledge is the ability to self motivate. This will ensure that no matter how difficult the situation might seem, you will be able to keep trying instead of just giving up. If like me, you are interested in those survival shows on television, you have probably seen Les Stroud lead a bunch of kids into the wild and let the play at surviving. I thought this show was a great way of showing that some people are more willing to quit than try. I know that they are just kids, but they are going to be useless adults one day.

Another basic survival skill that most people don’t consider, is the ability to make rope and to tie that rope into different knots. The applications that require bonding two things together in the wild are almost endless. Knots are something that is taught to the entry level boy scouts and since barely anyone joins the scouts anymore, you are going to have to oppourtunity to learn about some basic knots right here.
